Chisinau public transportation blocked due to strong snowfalls

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ – Public transport in Chisinau is blocked out of collapsed trees as well as significant snow cover. The announcement was made by the Mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, on a social network today.

According to the editor, the trolley-buses could not go to the line and remained blocked, and the buses could not reach the suburbs of Chisinau. "The exceptional situation extends throughout Chisinau. The decision that adults and children stay at home was also confirmed by the Department of Emergency Situations. Do not expose yourself to the risk of circulating around the city. The services will act in order to remove the collapsed trees, unblock the main arteries, reconnect to the electric grid and restore the public transport," wrote Chirtoaca.

The mayor also said that during last night another 400-500 trees were brought down. Thus, the number of trees that fell during the day of yesterday and the night of today exceeded the figure of one thousand.

At the same time, 20 pillars collapsed last night, 60 electric wire breakages and 315 disconnections from electricity. The roads are blocked both in the city and the suburbs.

Also, Chisinau International Airport announced that due to the unfavorable weather, about 20 air races were postponed and canceled both during the night and in the morning of 21 April. Also, flights that could not land were redirected to Bucharest.

The State Hydrometeorological Service announced last night the Orange Code of heavy rainfall in the form of snow and snow in the south, the centre and some of the localities in the north of Moldova.

Also, the meteorologists issued frost yellow code on 18-24 April throughout Moldova. Thus, during this period frosts are expected at the surface of the soil with the intensity of -1...-4°C, isolated in air 0...-3°C. Today snow forecasts are expected, and frosts in the air are forecast for tomorrow with the intensity of -1...-4°C.
