New programme to support agriculture to be implemented in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 August /MOLDPRES/- The presidential decree providing for the promulgation of the law on ratification of the Financing Agreement between Moldova and the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the Fiduciary Fund of the program for adapting small producers for implementation of the Rural Resilience Project –IFAID VII will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 11 August.

The program aims to provide an affordable and ling-term source of funding to strengthen resilience to climate changes in agriculture. The agreement’s budget is 23.7 million dollars, of which 5.5 million dollars in grant.

The program comprises the construction of 24 water supply systems for irrigation for 75 agricultural producers, rehabilitation of 12 road segments to facilitate farmers’ access to production areas, which will benefit 50 enterprises and over 1,200 families from 12 villages. About 420 farmers will get grants for the implementation of measures to improve resilience to climate change, over 450 micro-entrepreneurs, 150 young entrepreneurs and at least 20 small and medium-sized enterprises will benefit from preferential credits.

Also, to reduce the soil erosion effect and the impact of climate change, the program will finance the construction and rehabilitation of rainwater accumulation lakes with an area of over 30 hectares, 200 ha of forest strips and 200 ha of grassland will be planted/ rehabilitated.

The implementation period of the agreement is six years, and will be completed in 2022. Its management will be ensured by the current Consolidated Unit for implementation of IFAID Programs in Moldova.
