Documentary "King Michael: The Way Home" to be screened in Chisinau on Royalty Day of Romania

History enthusiasts from the Moldovan capital on 10 May are invited to the screening of a documentary film titled, King Michael: The Way Home, due to take place at Cinema Patria Loteanu at 18:00, on the occasion of the Romanian Royalty Day. The screening marks a moment of reflection on the destiny of an outstanding personality in Romania’s history.

The documentary, produced by Chainsaw Film Productions and produced by John M. Florescu, tells the story of King Michael I, a monarch who played a crucial role in history of the 20th century. The film includes rare archival footage and exceptional interviews, including with King Michael himself and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as well as testimonies from historians and close associates of the Royal House.

The film explores not only the political aspect, but also the deeply human side of the king, capturing moments of isolation, perseverance and return. His story is a lesson of courage, honor and memory during a tumultuous period in European history.

The event takes place within the Interbellic Fest @ CHIȘINĂU.RO and is organized by the Heritage 21 Foundation, the National Association of Young Historians of Moldova and the Cultural Heritage Institute, in partnership with the Union of Filmmakers from Moldova, Megagen Company - Moldova, and the Balti Free Economic Zone. Admission is free, subject to available seating.

Born in 1921, Michael I was twice King of Romania: between 1927–1930 and 1940–1947. During World War II, he remained in history for the act of August 23, 1944, when he ruled to arrest Marshal Ion Antonescu and withdraw Romania from its alliance with Nazi Germany. After the establishment of the communist regime, he was forced to abdicate in 1947 and live in exile for almost five decades. Although away from his country, King Michael I continued to be a symbol of dignity and resistance against totalitarianism.
