VIDEO // Head of EU Delegation to Chisinau conveys message on Europe Day

On Europe Day, we celebrate unity, peace and prosperity — fundamental values that unite us as we build a common future together in our great European family. Head of the European Union delegation to Chisinau Jānis Mažeiks made the statement today.

The EU Ambassador reaffirmed the European community's support for the Republic of Moldova, highlighting that our country has faced various challenges in the context of the war waged by Russia in Ukraine.

“On Europe Day, we celebrate unity, peace and prosperity — fundamental values that unite us as we build a common future together in our great European family. Above all, peace is the foundation on which everything is built. A country that chooses war, destruction and oppression is destined for corruption and lawlessness. Russia's war against Ukraine is a painful reminder of what is truly important. Moldova has felt the impact of Russian pressure — through economic intimidation, energy blackmail and disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing society. Yet, Moldova remains strong. Because it is not alone.

The European Union stands with you! When a Moldovan farmer has access to European markets, when a student studies abroad through Erasmus+ program, when a village receives drinking water with the EU support — all these mean real changes in people's lives,” he said.

This year, on Europe Day, let's reaffirm our commitment to the values that unite and strengthen us: Peace, Prosperity and Dignity. Because Europe is not just a place. Europe is an idea. Europe is a choice. Europe is your family. And Europe is YOU,” he said.

Messages for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova also came from the ambassadors of EU states.

On 9 May, the Republic of Moldova celebrates Europe Day. The official opening of the event will take place today at 1:00 PM in the Great National Assembly Square. The event will culminate with an extraordinary concert performed by renowned artists from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
