VIDEO // Marta Kos and Cristina Gherasimov open concert dedicated to Europe Day in Chișinău

A concert dedicated to Europe Day is taking place in Great National Assembly Square. Renowned artists from Moldova and Ukraine are performing on stage. Symbolically named "Peace, Prosperity, Dignity: Europe is YOU!", the concert was opened by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.

Marta Kos greeted the audience in Romanian and shared her joy of being in Moldova on Europe Day.

"Good evening, Moldova! Today is a special day, it's Europe Day and I am happy to have the opportunity to celebrate it here in Chișinău. And here's why this day is special for me, because it's symbolic, it's a day of dreams we share in Moldova and in the European Union to be part of the most successful peace project of all time.

The creation of the European Union is a response to the tragedy of war after which people said: 'never again,' which is why we built a Europe based on solidarity, cooperation, where all countries, whether small or large, sit at the same table where they respect each other and that's important to me," said Marta Kos.

The EU Commissioner spoke about her origins and emphasized that in the European Union national traditions are important, and the EU is a community that protects national identity.

"The European Union will be richer with Moldova," the official said.

Marta Kos urged Moldovans to have confidence in the European Union, which is the most successful peace project of all time.

The audience was also greeted by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.

"Happy birthday, Moldova! Happy birthday, Europe! With joy, we meet again here in the heart of the capital, in the Great National Assembly Square - the place where our dreams find voice and take shape. Today, we celebrate not just a day in the calendar, we celebrate peace, freedom, unity. We celebrate a choice, Moldova's choice to follow its European path. As many have said today, Europe Day is about people, about each one of you, about the youth, about parents, about all those who believe that Moldova can achieve more. I know that Europe is our path to that 'more'," said Gherasimov.

Head of the EU delegation to Chișinău Jānis Mažeiks invited the public gathered in the Great National Assembly Square to watch the concert.

"Dear friends, today's concert is a symbol of our common roots and hope for a better future. On this stage, this evening, meet representatives of culture in unique colors. These artists not only sing, they tell stories about who we are, where we come from, and where we are going. So I invite you to open your hearts and live an unforgettable evening, let the music embrace us. Happy birthday, Europe! Happy birthday, European Moldova!" the European ambassador said.

Also, in Chișinău and Ungheni, the European Town was opened today, a place where Moldovans can learn about traditions and customs from EU member states as well as projects implemented by the EU in Moldova.
