Sweden's foreign affairs minister says joining EU one of the best decisions country can take

The decision to join the European Union is one of the best a country can take.  Sweden's Minister for European Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz has made statements to this effect in Chisinau. The official said that Sweden can serve as an example in this regard: since the accession, the country has developed economically and prospered. "We have become richer, freer and we have more security," Jessica Rosencrantz stressed.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov today had a meeting in Chisinau with Sweden's Minister for European Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, on a working visit to Moldova. During the meeting, the officials discussed the foreign policy priorities of Moldova, with a focus on the European integration agenda.

"We are quite pleased with your visit to Chisinau. We had a very good and consistent dialogue today about our foreign policy priorities and especially regarding our European agenda. For us, Sweden is a very clear example of a country where democratic institutions are respected, a model of an inclusive society that we also aspire to as a country. We also discussed Sweden's essential contribution to strengthening our capacities, including through the support provided in the process of implementing the reform agenda," said Cristina Gherasimov.

For her part, the Swedish minister reconfirmed her country's firm support for the European path of Moldova.

"I want to assure you that Sweden and the European Union are here to support you on the path to joining the European Union. The access to the single European market has been enhanced, trade barriers have been reduced, economic growth has been promoted and travel for Moldovan citizens to the EU has been facilitated. We are impressed by Moldova's efforts to implement the necessary legislation to become part of the European space. You have made much progress and, at the same time, you proved extraordinary resilience against hybrid attacks, including in the gas crisis," emphasized Jessica Rosencrantz.

The visit by the Swedish official takes place at an invitation by the deputy PM for European integration and is held in the context of strengthening the bilateral relations and the constant support provided by Sweden in the process of Moldova's accession to the European Union.

On May 7, Minister for European Affairs of Sweden Jessica Rosencrantz, along with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, will make a trip to the central Ialoveni district, where they will meet with local public authorities and citizens, participate in activities dedicated to Europe Day, and attend the final ceremony of the EuroQuiz 2025 competition.
