Deputy Prime Minister, Brussels officials approach reforms and European path

The pace of reforms in the Republic of Moldova and priorities on the European agenda were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov with officials in Brussels, during a visit where she accompanied Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu to several high-level meetings.

“We concluded a visit to Brussels where I accompanied Prime Minister Munteanu to several meetings with European officials, and in parallel, I participated in several events about enlargement and our European path,” said Cristina Gherasimov.

According to the official, the discussions focused on advancing internal reforms and the next steps in Moldova's accession to the European Union. In Brussels, Gherasimov and Munteanu had meetings with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, Marta Kos, Commissioner for Enlargement, Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as well as with Montenegro's Prime Minister Milojko Spajic.

Gherasimov mentioned that, together with Ana Gallego, Director General of DG JUST, they discussed the progress in justice and the necessary steps to ensure a “predictable and fair justice” for the citizens.

The Deputy Prime Minister also met with Marie Bjerre, Denmark's Minister for European Affairs, and approached developments on the agenda of the upcoming Danish Presidency of the EU Council. “Moldova enjoys all the appreciation and support of Denmark,” she emphasized.

During an event organized by the European Policy Centre, at the initiative of Moldova – EU club, Gherasimov, along with Gert Jan Koopman and Siegfried Mureșan, discussed the country's achievements, challenges during the electoral period, and objectives for the upcoming period.

Additionally, the official held discussions with several Romanian Members of the European Parliament – Victor Negrescu, Nicu Ștefănuță, Siegfried Mureșan, and Dan Barna – about the consistent support offered to the Republic of Moldova in the European Parliament.

At Maison du MediaLab, Gherasimov met with a group of Moldovan journalists on a study visit to Brussels. The visit also included a meeting with the diaspora in Belgium, to whom the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister presented the actions of the Government and thanked them for their involvement.

In conclusion, Cristina Gherasimov visited the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, where she thanked the diplomats for their professionalism and dedication in representing the country every day.

Munteanu's visit took place after the European Commission presented the Annual Enlargement Report at the beginning of November, confirming the highest pace of progress for the Republic of Moldova since achieving candidate country status. According to the assessment, Chișinău has made progress in all 33 negotiation chapters, of which 19 have advanced to a higher level of preparedness compared to the previous year.
