EU increases financial support for Moldova in 2026 European budget
The European Union's budget for 2026 today was adopted by the European Parliament’s plenum, a document that includes additional allocations for security, competitiveness and support in the Eastern neighborhood, including Moldova. MEP Siegfried Muresan has made statements to this effect.
According to him, the consolidated budget directly addresses the security challenges at the EU's eastern borders and the tensions triggered by the Russian Federation in the region.
“I supported an amendment through which allocations for the Eastern Neighborhood, including Moldova, are increased by 25 million euros. This is vital support for civil society organizations, which play a crucial role in defending democracy against Russian pressures,” said the MEP.
The approved document provides: an additional 20 million euros for the Horizon Europe programme, for research and innovation; strengthening the European Cybersecurity Competence Center in Bucharest, by increasing the number of positions; additional funding for Moldova and countries in the Eastern Neighborhood, in the context of decreasing American support in the region.
Muresan emphasizes that the adopted budget represented a concrete response to the EU's security needs and strengthened the protection of partner states vulnerable to destabilization.
