EU-Moldova Association Committee convenes in Chisinau: accession negotiations on agenda

The negotiations for Moldova’s accession to the European Union (EU) and the security situation in the region will be examined during the EU-Moldova Association Committee, which will convene at the parliament on December 5. The event will be co-chaired by the head of parliamentary commission for European integration, Marcel Spatari, and MEP Siegfried Muresan.

“During the meeting, discussions will focus on negotiations on Moldova accession to the European Union, as well as on the region's security situation and country's resilience against hybrid warfare,” reads a press release by the parliament.

At the end of the meeting, the co-chairs of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, Marcel Spatari and Siegfried Muresan, will hold a news conference.

The six members of the European Parliament are in Chisinau and have met  President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Deputy Parliament Speaker Doina Gherman.

“The discussions focused on the path taken by Moldova towards EU accession. The MEPs emphasized the key role of Moldova’s parliament in this process – from aligning national legislation with EU standards to overseeing ongoing reforms. They also reiterated that Moldovan MPs can rely on strong support on behalf of the EU and especially on behalf of the European Parliament throughout the accession process,” reads the statement of the European Union Delegation to Chișinău.

The delegation of the European Parliament, led by Siegfried Muresan, includes MEPs Maria Grapini, Jonas Sjöstedt, Liudas Mažylis, Krzysztof Brejza, and Dan Barna, along with Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Iwona Piórko, and the head of the European Parliament Liaison Office for the Eastern Partnership, Anca-Maria Simion-Neagoe.

The EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC) represents the parliamentary forum of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. It includes members appointed by Moldova’s parliament and the European Parliament, who meet twice a year, alternately in Chisinau and Brussels.
