On 17 May, Head of State Maia Sandu met in Tirana with President of the Republic of Albania Bajram Begaj. The officials discussed the European path of our countries, the shared responsibility of protecting peace and stability in the region, and strengthening economic relations between Moldova and Albania, including in the tourism.

"Moldova and Albania are united by the same choice: a future in the European Union. We support each other because we want the same thing: free, prosperous and safe societies for all our citizens," said the head of state.

During the President's visit to Tirana, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Albania in the European integration was signed. Its aim is to facilitate the exchange of information, share experiences and best practices to support and speed up European integration.

Both Moldova and Albania have candidate status and have begun EU accession negotiations. This new stage in bilateral relations creates additional opportunities for cooperation in economic and trade sectors. Albania is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination in Europe, with a record of 10 million visitors in 2024, and tourism significantly contributes to the country's economic development.
