The 23rd edition of the Spring Wine Vernissage was organized in Chisinau on 17 May. The event was dedicated to celebrating ten years of excellence in wines with Protected Geographical Indication.
Attending the event, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga noted that for ten years, wines with Protected Geographical Indication have been telling the world the story of the place they come from.
“PGI system means more than just a technical framework. PGI is not just a label, it's a signature of quality and a symbol of belonging. We are pleased to have here in Chișinău the people who make excellence possible: winegrowers, winemakers and promoters of tradition. We are talking about ten years in which more and more winemakers have realized the importance of traceability, standards and terroir value,” Catlabuga said.
In the Republic of Moldova, the PGI system is applied in four recognized wine regions: Codru, Ștefan Vodă, Valul lui Traian and Divin.
Moldovan wines are increasingly present on the global market, being exported to over 70 countries. In the past decade, they have also won over 7000 awards and medals at international competitions and tastings.
The year 2025 is symbolic for the wine sector of the Republic of Moldova, after our country was nominated to host the 46th World Congress and the 23rd General Assembly of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine on 16-20 June 2025.
