Germany will provide Moldova with new financial support amounting to 37 million euros, as part of a broader package offered to Ukraine, recently approved by the Bundestag. The announcement was made at a today’s news conference held by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The areas of support for Moldova will be further discussed with the Moldovan authorities.

The PM expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by Germany, noting that this country is one of the most important partners of Moldova, which has always responded to Moldovan authorities’ calls. The prime minister referred to the five editions of the Moldova Partnership Platform - a joint initiative of Germany, France and Romania, emphasizing that each edition has been essential for the stability and modernization of our country.

“No country has become a success story without initial solid support and strong partnerships. We requested this assistance from our partners - to build roads and hospitals, schools and jobs. Everything we do is for the people - for a better life here, at home. And we know that only together we can turn our dreams into reality,” said the PM.

According to the prime minister, Germany is the largest bilateral donor to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, with 25 per cent of the contribution, which means 33 million euros in 2025 and 40 million in 2023. At the same time,  Germany supports the modernization of the water supply system in Cahul, with an investment of approximately 8 million euros, part of a larger program exceeding 54 million euros and a contribution to energy efficiency and social infrastructure, such as the school in Dorotcaia or the kindergarten in Miclesti.

Economically, Germany is the fifth commercial partner and the seventh investor in terms of capital volume, with over 400 companies in Moldova, providing thousands of jobs. “Moldova has a huge potential. Even with a war at the border, we have fields and industries that can generate growth and prosperity for all,” the PM emphasized.

The prime minister also addressed the challenges faced by Moldova, in the light of Russia's attempts to derail the European path of Moldova. Nevertheless, the authorities have managed to launch EU accession negotiations, and in March 2025, the Economic Growth Plan for Moldova supported by the EU was adopted, with financial support of 1.9 billion euros, of which 520 million represent non-reimbursable grants. And in 2025 alone, the country will receive about 200 million euros pre-financing to start modernization projects.

Another significant support comes through the energy resilience package, worth 250 million euros, for electricity compensation for all citizens of Moldova.

“We should protect what we cherish most - our freedom and our common future in the large European family. And above all, what I hear from every person I meet in the villages and towns of Moldova - peace. Just peace for everyone!” emphasized Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Minister Annalena Baerbock reconfirmed Germany's support for the European integration of Moldova, appreciating the efforts of the Moldovan authorities in promoting reforms and defending democracy, despite the security challenges in the region: “Today, Moldova is strong and resilient and the Russian aggression plan has not succeeded. Moldova is on its path of reforming and is making notable progress.”
