The Government today approved the launch of negotiations and the signing of the Financing Contract between the Republic of Moldova and the European Investment Bank for the implementation of Livada Moldovei II project. The project envisages contracting a loan of 150 million euros, on favorable terms, intended for the modernization and strengthening of the agri-food sector.

The financing will support investments in horticulture, viticulture, the cereals sector, animal husbandry, aquaculture, processing, post-harvest infrastructure, digitalization, and irrigation.

Around 90% of the loan resources – approximately 135 million euros – will be directed to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Up to 10% of the loan – approximately 15 million euros – will be invested in research infrastructure, education, food safety, and public services for the sector.

The implementation of Livada Moldovei II project will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of agricultural producers, developing agri-food value chains, creating and maintaining jobs in rural areas, as well as aligning the sector with European Union standards.

Livada Moldovei II project represents a continuation of efforts to modernize agriculture, boost the competitiveness of the horticultural sector, and facilitate access to finance. The previous Livada Moldovei project supported the implementation of around 620 investment projects in the agricultural sector of the Republic of Moldova. The financial resources were directed both to supporting private investments – in post-harvest infrastructure, orchards, vineyards, nurseries, the wine sector, processing, and agricultural value chains – and to modernizing agricultural education and research institutions.

“Thanks to these investments made through Livada Moldovei, many producers have already managed to modernize their production and access new export markets, strengthening the position of Moldovan products on foreign markets. Export statistics confirm this: our fruits and wines are recognized on external markets,” Minister Ludmila Catlabuga said.
