Speaker participated in Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum held in Bucharest
Speaker Igor Grosu took part in Bucharest in the 10th edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, organized by the New Strategy Center. During the event, the official spoke in a discussion panel alongside President of the Senate of Romania Mircea Abrudean.
In his remarks, Grosu emphasized the importance of unity and regional cooperation for strengthening security in the Black Sea and Balkans region, in the context of current security challenges.
“Security in the Black Sea and the Balkans is also determined by our ability to remain united, clear-minded, and courageous in the face of threats,” said the Speaker.
The head of the legislature referred to the challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova, noting that our country is subjected daily to a hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation, manifested through disinformation campaigns, attempts at political corruption, vote buying, and actions meant to undermine citizens’ trust in state institutions and in the future of the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, the Speaker reiterated that the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union represents the country’s main strategic objective. “For the Republic of Moldova, joining the European Union is the way we strengthen our institutions, economy, democracy, and our ability to defend our freedom. The enlargement of the European Union is an investment in the security of the entire continent, and the Republic of Moldova is ready to contribute to this security, not just benefit from it,” Igor Grosu noted.
The Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum is dedicated to topics of defense, security, and international relations in the wider Black Sea and Balkans region. The event brings together experts and officials from several countries and includes discussion panels focused on the risks, threats, and vulnerabilities in the region.
