CEC clarifies observers' access to polling stations

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has issued clarifications regarding reported cases of alleged obstruction of observers' access to polling stations.

According to the CEC, polling stations are accessible for monitoring missions only to observers accredited by the Central Electoral Commission and constituency electoral councils, as well as representatives of electoral competitors, registered according to legal provisions. They can remain inside the station throughout the election day, from the opening of the polls until the counting of ballots and the tallying of results. Monitoring procedures are clear, and the electoral office members are trained to adhere to them.

Situations where misunderstandings or registration delays occur are isolated incidents and are promptly addressed according to the legal framework. Each case can be reported to the electoral bodies for verification and to ensure the correctness of the process.

Today's parliamentary elections are monitored by 3,423 observers. Out of the total number, 2,496 national observers represent eight civil associations in the country. The most observers have been accredited at the request of Promo-LEX Association and the Union of Jurists of Moldova.

Additionally, the CEC has accredited 912 international observers.
