First meeting of Recean government after elections

Cabinet members convened today for the first meeting following the parliamentary elections on September 28. Prime Minister Dorin Recean conveyed a message of thanks to the citizens, emphasizing their active participation in the elections.

He said that the authorities will have even more work to do in order to build resilient institutions and finalize judicial reform.

'The first thing we need to do is thank the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, everyone who went to vote, everyone who voted, regardless of how they voted. Now we have a new mandate to work even harder. I want to thank the institutions that functioned very well and protected the integrity of the vote. What is important is to not become overconfident, because I don't believe Kremlin will simply leave us alone. But we know what we have to do. We need to build resilient institutions, complete judicial reform, and then we can build Europe here at home,' said Dorin Recean.

During the post-election transition period, the acting Government continues its work with limited responsibilities until a new Executive is sworn in. According to national legislation, the interim Government can only adopt normative acts necessary for the ongoing functioning of the central public administration, without issuing emergency ordinances. It may also appoint or propose individuals to public office positions, excluding ministerial positions.

In this period, the Government's activities focus on the day-to-day management of public affairs and ensuring institutional stability, without initiating major reforms or implementing wide-ranging policies. This approach avoids significant changes in administration until a new Government is formed, which will have a full mandate to implement the programs and policies set by the newly elected Parliament.

On September 28, citizens of the Republic of Moldova elected the deputies of the future Parliament. The Action and Solidarity Party secured a new majority.

A new Government could be inaugurated in the coming weeks, states President Maia Sandu.
