Japan’s Minister for Internal Affairs to pay visit to Moldova

Japan’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshimasa Hayashi will pay a working visit to the Republic of Moldova on 2–3 May 2026. This will be the first trip to our country by a minister from the Japanese Cabinet.

The official is also President of Japan–Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group and has previously held the positions of Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

According to the Embassy of Japan in Chișinău, during the visit Yoshimasa Hayashi is scheduled to meet with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitization, Eugen Osmochesu. Discussions are also planned with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, and Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin.

On this occasion, a memorandum of cooperation in the digital field will be signed between Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization of the Republic of Moldova.

The official delegation will also include Japan’s State Minister of the Environment and member of Japan–Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group Shigeharu Aoyama.

The purpose of the visit is to deepen bilateral dialogue and strengthen Moldova–Japan cooperation in areas of common interest, including digitalization, as well as to exchange views on the prospects of bilateral relations.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan were established on 16 March 1992.
