President received Japanese delegation led by Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today received in Chișinău Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa, who is also the Chair of Japan–Moldova interparliamentary friendship group. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, as well as an exchange of views on the regional and global security situation.
The Head of State expressed her gratitude for Japan’s constant support, as one of the most important development partners of the Republic of Moldova. In the last five years, the Government of Japan has provided our country with bilateral non-repayable financial assistance and loans totaling over 140 million dollars.
Recent projects include the modernization of agricultural mechanization by equipping farmers with new machinery, providing fire services in six localities with 19 modern fire engines, support for agricultural producers and SME development, as well as equipping Teleradio-Moldova with equipment for its new studios.
The visit of the delegation also includes the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in the digital field between the two countries. The document establishes a common framework for collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence governance and cybersecurity.
During the meeting, the interlocutors reiterated their commitment to democratic values, freedom, and the sovereignty of states. In this context, the Head of State underlined the strategic objective of the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union.
