Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today in Chisinau had a meeting with acting  Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan. The discussions focused on the European integration of Moldova, energy security, the development of common infrastructure, connectivity between the two states and strengthening resilience in the context of regional challenges.

“I am pleased that we have managed to move concrete things forward together. We still have many important projects to implement, from infrastructure and logistics to the integration of Moldova into the European energy space. Romania remains a reliable partner and a constant supporter of our European path,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the serious incident that had occurred last night in Galati, where a Russian drone hit a residential building, injuring several civilians.

“What happened in Galati is a serious and unacceptable incident. We strongly condemn this act and express our solidarity with the affected citizens. The consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine continue to trigger risks for the entire region,” said Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan.

The incident was also condemned by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The Moldovan PM noted that the incident proved the need to strengthen resilience and regional cooperation.

The two officials reconfirmed the commitment of Moldova and Romania to continue implementing joint projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, the economy and European integration, for the benefit of citizens on both banks of the Prut River.

Romania is the main strategic, commercial and investment partner of Moldova and the most important supporter of the country’s European path. Romania actively supports the process of accession to the European Union, the strengthening of Moldova’s resilience and security, as well as the development of joint projects in infrastructure, energy and connectivity.

At present, Romania is the main commercial partner of Moldova, with a trade volume of approximately 3.5 billion US dollars. In addition, more than 1,700 companies with Romanian capital operate on the Moldovan market and numerous common strategic projects – including energy interconnections, bridges over the Prut River and the Non-Refundable Financial Assistance Agreement worth 100 million euros – contribute to economic development and to bringing Moldova closer to the European Union.
