Romania’s acting PM in Chisinau speaks about proposal for sanctions against Russian diplomats in Bucharest

Romania’s acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan today in Chisinau said that he had agreed with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on the course of action that will be proposed at the meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT), so that sanctions against Russian diplomats in Bucharest can be adopted, following the drone incident that took place on May 29 morning over a residential building in the city of Galati.

“I would highlight two aspects. First of all, what happened last night in Romania, in Galati. As I said, I firmly condemn this irresponsible action by Russia, and we are working in these hours and these days on three levels. The first is the diplomatic one, and this morning I agreed with the MAE on the action that will be proposed at the CSAT meeting through diplomatic channels, so that we can adopt sanctions against Russian diplomats in Bucharest,” Ilie Bolojan said at a news  briefing held in Chisinau.

At the same time, the official referred to the necessary measures to ensure security at Romania’s eastern borders.

“Secondly, there is the immediate plan related to ensuring security at Romania’s eastern borders. And I have agreed with the Ministry of Defence that it will undertake all steps to request from NATO allies the transfer of military technologies that we do not currently have, related to anti‑air capabilities and radars capable of scanning at low altitudes, so that we have at our disposal military equipment that takes into account what is happening in today’s wars and the new techniques involving drones,” said Ilie Bolojan.

The Romanian acting PM also emphasized that, on these days, Romania was signing all contracts for the delivery, in the coming years and no later than 2030, of all defence capabilities requested by the Romanian Army.

“The most important plan we have worked on throughout this period, and which we will conclude tomorrow, is the SAFE programme. For this, on these days Romania is signing all contracts for the delivery, in the coming years and no later than 2030, of all defence capabilities requested by the Romanian Army, worth approximately 10 billion euros, which will provide the army’s equipment in the coming years, in order to provide security to our citizens,” the Bucharest official specified.

Romania’s interim Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, paid a visit to Chișinău on May 29, to take part in the event, Strong Mayoralties. Developed Settlements. However, the official was forced to interrupt his visit, because of the situation triggered by the crash of a Russian drone onto a residential building in Galati.

A drone involved in the bombing of infrastructure targets in Ukraine crashed last night in Galati, Romania, causing a fire on the roof of a residential building. Two people were slightly injured and the building was evacuated.
