Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry issues travel alert for Qatar, Kuwait: “Security situation stays volatile”

Against the backdrop of ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Moldova has issued a travel warning for Moldovan citizens who are currently in, transiting through, or intending to travel to Qatar and Kuwait, warning that the security situation in the region stays volatile and may evolve rapidly.

According to the ministry, the airspace of the two states is currently open, and commercial flights are operating as normal.

“Citizens of Moldova who are currently in, transiting through, or intending to travel to the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait are informed that, against the backdrop of persistent regional tensions, the security situation stays volatile and may evolve rapidly. The airspace of the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait is open and civil aviation operations are taking place under normal conditions. However, in the current regional context, flights may be affected by route changes, delays or cancellations. Citizens are urged to check the status of their flights directly with the airline before going to the airport and to travel only on the basis of a confirmed reservation,” the MAE statement reads.

At the same time, the Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends that Moldovans reassess the need to travel to Qatar and Kuwait, while those already on the territory of these states should exercise enhanced caution and constantly follow official information issued by local authorities.

Among the recommendations made by MAE, there are avoiding areas that are sensitive from a security perspective, complying with the instructions of local authorities, identifying the nearest shelters or safe spaces and continuously monitoring official information.

Citizens are also advised to exercise caution nearby foreign diplomatic, military, or institutional objects and to consider alternative travel options, if the flight schedule is affected.

According to the ministry, the Embassy of Moldova in the State of Qatar, which is also accredited to the State of Kuwait, is continuously monitoring developments in the region and maintaining contact with the relevant authorities and partners.
