Prime Minister at Moldova–EU Investment Conference: Moldova ready for accession and becoming part of European economy
There are moments that confirm you are on the right path. Today is one of them. I am glad to welcome in Chișinău partners and investors who see in the Republic of Moldova what we also see: a European future built through work, trust, and investment. This statement was made by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu at Moldova–EU Investment Conference, taking place today in Chișinău.
The official said that at present, the discussion is no longer about the potential of the Republic of Moldova, but about the speed with which this potential can be turned into economic growth and concrete investments.
“Today we are no longer discussing whether the Republic of Moldova has potential. This question has already been answered. Today we are discussing how quickly we can turn this potential into economic growth and real investments. The conference is a modern platform that brings together investors, business leaders, decision-makers and innovators to build partnerships, strengthen economic ties and create new development opportunities. The theme of this year’s conference – ‘Investing in Europe’s next success story’ – perfectly captures the current moment. It is not just a slogan, but a strategy built on reforms, investment and European integration. For decades, Moldova was seen as a small market in Eastern Europe. Today we are becoming something different: a future member state of the European Union, a reliable partner for European industry, a growing hub for innovation, manufacturing and the agri‑food sector, as well as a contributor to Europe’s energy security. Moldova is becoming a bridge between markets, talent and opportunities,” the prime minister said.
Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that the European Union’s Growth Plan, launched a year ago, is a strong signal of confidence for the Republic of Moldova and a basis for economic development projects.
“European integration is not just a political destination, but an economic transformation. It means stronger institutions, better governance, increased competitiveness, a more predictable business environment and more confidence for investors. This is exactly the Moldova we are building: a country in which reforms are not simple bureaucratic exercises, but engines of economic growth. A country in which the rule of law prevails. Moldova’s European future is no longer defined by promises, but by concrete results. Moldova is no longer just preparing for the European economy – Moldova is becoming part of the European economy. A year ago, the Growth Plan created the necessary framework and now we are starting to implement the projects,” the prime minister said.
He noted that Moldova is gradually becoming a relevant partner for European industry.
Munteanu pointed out that one of the country’s advantages is its ability to implement reforms quickly and advance the digitalization of public administration, which increases its attractiveness for investors.
“The Government of the Republic of Moldova promotes investments in strategic sectors for long‑term growth, sectors that can generate higher added value, stronger exports, greater efficiency, higher productivity and better‑paid jobs. One of Moldova’s greatest advantages is its ability to move quickly: we are implementing reforms, modernizing institutions, investing in infrastructure and accelerating digitalization. Digitalization has become one of the main drivers of economic development and allows us to connect investors, entrepreneurs and decision‑makers, regardless of their location. I am glad that today important business leaders from Europe are present here. Their presence shows something important: interest in the Republic of Moldova is growing beyond the region. Institutional investors are watching Moldova closely, not for promises, but for real progress, reforms and a clear direction. This is the right moment to invest in Moldova. We are a country firmly anchored on the European path, implementing reforms rapidly, modernizing and strengthening our connectivity,” he said.
The prime minister added that the Government is counting on investments in strategic sectors.
“Moldova is no longer just preparing for the European economy – it is becoming part of it,” Alexandru Munteanu concluded.
Chișinău is hosting today the first Republic of Moldova – European Union Investment Conference. The event is dedicated to investment opportunities in our country and to its growth role within the European economic area. It brings together political decision‑makers, European institutions, financial organizations, investors, business leaders and experts from various sectors.
