Inga Ionesii and Sergiu Gurduza to be appointed ambassadors to India and Portugal

The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved at today’s meeting advisory opinions for the appointment of two new ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova, who will represent the country in India and Portugal.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Inga Ionesii is to be appointed as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to India, while Sergiu Gurduza will be appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Portugal.

During the meeting, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dumitru Socolan presented the nominations and highlighted the professional experience of the two diplomats. According to him, the expertise accumulated by the candidates will contribute to promoting the interests of the Republic of Moldova and to strengthening bilateral relations with the states of accreditation.

Inga Ionesii has more than 25 years of experience in public administration, diplomacy, and international economic cooperation. Throughout her career, she has held leading positions within the Ministry of Economy, the Chisinau City Hall, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 2016 and 2020, she served as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Estonia. She also coordinated the negotiations and implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, as well as the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Since 2021, she has headed the Institutional Management Directorate within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was involved in organizing the 2023 European Political Community Summit. For her activity, she was awarded the Civic Merit Medal.

Sergiu Gurduza has more than 16 years of experience in the fields of justice, governance, and external relations. He is currently completing his term as Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in Istanbul. Previously, he held the positions of Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief State Adviser to the Prime Minister, member of the Central Electoral Commission, and adviser to the Speaker of Parliament. In 2025, he was awarded the state distinction Order of Honour. He is also an associate member of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT.

The two diplomats will be able to begin their work after the completion of the necessary legal procedures, including the approval of their appointments by Government decision and presidential decree.
