Moldova relies on Germany’s support to speed up European integration
The Republic of Moldova continues to count on Germany’s support in the European integration and in advancing its path to accession to the European Union. The topic was discussed in Berlin during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi and Germany’s Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul.
The officials addressed developments on the bilateral agenda, as well as the stages of the Republic of Moldova’s EU accession process.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy thanked the German side for its constant support for Chișinău on its European path and stressed that the Republic of Moldova is ready to open accession negotiations across all six clusters.
According to the minister, this process must be based on the progress achieved and on the principle of meritocracy.
“Germany remains one of the main supporters of the Republic of Moldova in the European integration and supports the opening of negotiations as soon as possible,” Popșoi said.
Popșoi is paying a visit to Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany, on 18–19 May.
The Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations on 30 April 1992.
427 enterprises with German capital are operating in Moldova, with investments totaling over 773 million lei. By volume of invested capital, the Federal Republic of Germany ranks 6th among the main investors in the Republic of Moldova, and by number of enterprises it ranks 7th. Among the largest German investors in the Republic of Moldova are Südzucker, Dräxlmaier, Steinel Electronic, Gebauer & Griller and Kaufland.
