Moldovan, Czech foreign affairs ministers discuss cooperation, support for Moldova's European agenda in Chisinau

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Macinka in Chisinau today. The discussions reconfirmed the substantial nature of the Moldovan–Czech political dialogue, based on shared values and on the commitment to develop new projects for the benefit of both countries’ citizens.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi thanked the Czech Republic for its constant support in promoting reforms and advancing the European path of Moldova, including through assistance provided to strengthen institutional resilience.

“I discussed with Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka the consolidation of Moldovan–Czech cooperation and the support provided to Moldova in the process of European integration. I expressed my appreciation for the constant support granted to our country for promoting reforms, strengthening institutional resilience and managing regional challenges,” said Mihai Popsoi.

The two ministers highlighted the importance of projects implemented in such areas as good governance, agriculture, natural resource management and social development, as well as the need to expand cooperation into new sectors of strategic interest, including energy security, border security and defense.

The development of bilateral economic relations was also emphasized, reflected in the increase of trade exchanges and investment interest, with the Czech Republic ranking among the main trading partners of Moldova. The sides expressed interest in further harnessing the opportunities for economic and investment cooperation.

At the same time, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and continuing coordination within the Council of Europe and other multilateral platforms.

Minister Petr Macinka also congratulated Moldova on organizing the 135th Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and for the leadership proved during its Presidency.

Moldova today hosted the 135th Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The meeting marks the end of the country’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, exercised as of  November 14, 2025 till May 15, 2026, under the motto “For a Europe of peace and resilience.” This is the second term held by Moldova since its accession to the Council of Europe, the first having been exercised in 2003.
