Moldovan PM-designate says financial support provided to amalgamated mayoralties – 3,000 lei for each resident – to be allocated according to assumed commitments

The financial support provided to amalgamated mayoralties – 3,000 lei for each resident – will be allocated according to the assumed commitments and the established schedule. The local public administration reform continues exactly as planned. The statements were made by prime minister-designate Vasile Tofan, who thus responded to falsehoods circulated in the public space.

According to the official, the 2026 state budget provides around 170 million lei for Stimulus 1, meant to support communities that are in the process of voluntary amalgamation.

In parallel, during 2026, investment projects will be prepared to be financed through Stimulus 2 – the support of 3,000 lei for each resident, intended for development projects and the modernization of infrastructure in amalgamated communities, Vasile Tofan said. He added that these resources would be included in the 2027 budget, in line with the established reform schedule.

“It is not a matter of a lack of funding, but of the natural stages of implementing the reform: in 2026, the measures planned for the first stage are financed, and in 2027, resources will be allocated for the investments related to the second stage,” Vasile Tofan concluded.

According to information presented today in parliament by the designated Secretary General of the Government, Alexei Buzu, more than one thousand decisions on voluntary amalgamation have been approved so far, which means that about 70 percent of the country’s mayoralties are involved in this process. The voluntary amalgamation process continues until July 31, and communities that decide to participate in this process will benefit from additional development funds provided by the government.
