Joseph Burkhalter confirmed by U.S. Senate as next ambassador to Moldova
The United States Senate has confirmed Joseph Burkhalter as the next U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The U.S. Embassy in Chișinău made the statement today.
The U.S. diplomatic mission said that it is looking forward to Joseph Burkhalter’s arrival in the Republic of Moldova and expressed readiness to work with him to further strengthen the partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova.
“Congratulations to Ambassador-designate Joseph Burkhalter on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the next U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. We look forward to welcoming Ambassador-designate Burkhalter to Chișinău and to working together to further strengthen the enduring partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova,” the U.S. Embassy said.
His nomination as ambassador to the Republic of Moldova was announced in June 2026. Burkhalter was heard by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on June 25, and on July 22 the committee approved his nomination with 12 votes in favor and 9 against. The nomination then went to the full Senate, which confirmed Burkhalter as the next U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova.
The post of U.S. ambassador to Chișinău has been vacant since May, following the end of Kent Logsdon’s term. During this period, the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova has been headed on an interim basis by chargés d’affaires.
