PM-designate says grateful to Romania for its constant support of Moldova’s European path

The goal of this government is to take Moldova into the European Union. We are grateful to Romania for the constant support provided along this path. The statement today was made by the designated Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, who is presenting the governing programme in parliament.

The candidate nominated for the position of prime minister emphasized that Moldova and Romania are part of the same cultural and historical space.

“We have a common history, we have a common language, we are brothers and I admit that I have great sympathy for those who think this way. When I am in Romania I feel at home, just as I do in Moldova,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.

The designated PM also said that the role of the government he is proposing for a vote today “is to take Moldova into the European Union as an independent, sovereign and indivisible state.”

“I do not want to talk now about a Plan B. We have a Plan A and I propose that we follow it,” Vasile Tofan underlined.

He highlighted that “the authorities will continue the strategic partnership with Romania, cooperation with Ukraine and relations with the EU member states, the United States and the other partners of Moldova.”

The parliament today convened at a plenary meeting, in order to examine the government’s program of activity and to give a vote of confidence to the new cabinet of ministers. The mandate of the new cabinet will focus on the direction, “Moldova – a European, safe and prosperous country, in which private initiative generates growth, and an efficient and competent state delivers quality public services that improve people’s lives.”
