Prime Minister's end-of-term message
The Republic of Moldova is closer than ever to the strategic goal of joining the European Union. The message was conveyed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean on 15 October during the final Cabinet meeting before the results of the parliamentary elections are validated. Recean thanked all government members and public officials for the activities.
"We are at the last meeting in this format and I want to thank you because each of you has taken on a very important role during this challenging and tough period, but with a very good result that we have all produced together, and our country is closer than ever to our strategic goal – to become members of the European Union. I want to thank you for your involvement, for your dedication, for being constantly exposed to extraordinary scrutiny from society, the press, and civil society, and this common effort with society has brought us here," stated the prime minister.
Additionally, the official thanked Alexandru Munteanu for accepting the proposal to be the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. Recean emphasized that Alexandru Munteanu's extensive experience will bring 'a new breath that we need' for the country's economic development.
"With the same gratitude, I want to thank Mr. Alexandru Munteanu for accepting to come and lead the next government which has no less important a task. I have known Mr. Munteanu since university; he was my professor in 1991, and he is the one who convinced me to go into electrophysics. I wanted to pursue mechanics, and he once told me, 'Dorin, the world moves from atoms to bits.' Beyond Mr. Munteanu's extraordinary experience in encouraging and growing students, his professional experience, his experience in growing people, being an economist, entrepreneur, investor will bring exactly that new breath in the government and society that we need to develop the economy. Again, his experience is very good for the two aspects we needed to address during this period, which are security and judicial reform, to establish a sound economy. So, I trust that we are moving in the right direction," stated Dorin Recean at the beginning of the government meeting.
At the end of the meeting, Dorin Recean also thanked all public officials for their work.
"I want to express appreciation for the public officials from the state chancellery and the institutions you represent because they have worked very hard beyond the normal agenda, which included the European integration agenda and many projects aimed at improving citizens' lives. I also thank our partners who are present here at the government meeting. I thank them for the attention they gave to public policies, for the criticism they offered, for the praise and appreciation, but most importantly, for helping us to be a united society, a society focused on human dignity, Moldova's independence, and the fact that the Republic of Moldova has proven to be a European country. Thank you all," declared Dorin Recean.
The prime minister's message was followed by applause from those present at the meeting.
The Cabinet led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean met today for the last time before the validation of the parliamentary elections. Once the elections for a new Parliament are validated, the government's duties will be limited.
