Consulate General of Moldova opened in Sacramento

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popşoi participated in the inauguration of Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento, an essential step for strengthening the support provided to Moldovan citizens in the United States of America. The consular office will serve the diaspora in the western USA and will offer them rapid services, without the need to travel long distances.

The Consulate General, which will be headed by Maxim Arghir, will offer a wide range of services, such as:

  • Issuance and renewal of Moldovan passports;
  • Notarial services and civil status documents;
  • Assistance to Moldovan citizens in emergencies;
  • Promotion of economic and cultural relations between Moldova and the USA.

“The opening of this consulate is a clear proof of our commitment to be closer to our citizens, wherever they are. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to expand and streamline its consular network, to better respond to the needs of Moldovans throughout the world, providing them with quality services. We are grateful to the American authorities for the support in opening this consulate,” Popşoi highlighted.

According to the official, the decision to open a consulate in Sacramento was received with enthusiasm by Moldovans in the USA, who until now had to travel thousands of kilometers to access consular services.

“I was glad to have a very warm discussion with our citizens and to tell them about our development plans for the Republic of Moldova. I told them that the only solution is integration into the great family of the European Union, and they mentioned that, although they are far from home, they support this path of the country,” he said.

“Together with my family, we have been settled in America for 18 years and every time we needed official documents, we had to travel very long distances. Now, with the new consulate, Moldova is closer to us. It is extraordinary news for all Moldovans in the western USA,” Pavel Celac said.

“For years we wanted Moldova to be closer to us. Now we have a direct support point, a stronger connection with our country of origin. It is an important moment for the entire Moldovan community,” said Andrian Onilov, a representative of the Moldovan diaspora, who has been living in the USA for 11 years.

“I was once again convinced that we have successful Moldovans all over the world, promoting our country with pride, wherever they are.

At the end of the day, together with our citizens, we had the opportunity to watch the film 'Moldovan Stories', an event organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Sacramento and Noroc Events,” Popşoi said.
