Moldovan PM says government doubles support for young families in 2025

The governance of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) is placing support for young families in the focus of its social policies, announcing a significant increase in funds allocated to this sector. While in 2019, the support for families was 2.1 billion lei, by 2025, it will reach 4.8 billion lei, an increase of 2.7 billion lei. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made statements to this effect today.

According to the cited source, the increase is backed by a string of concrete measures. Thus, starting from 2022, each child under the age of two receives a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei. The PM reiterates that the one-off childbirth allowance has been increased from 9,459 lei to 21,350 lei.

“Starting from March 2023, mothers have been able to work during maternity leave without losing the allowance and this payment is automatically calculated based on the income of the higher-earning parent,” said the prime minister.

According to the PM, following some legislative changes, fathers can ask for  extended paternity leave of up to one year and parents can share child care leave according to the family's needs.

At the same time, children from vulnerable families receive a monthly social aid of almost 3,000 lei. Over 40 creche groups have been created and renovated. And as of next September, all children from gymnasiums will receive free meals, in addition to those in primary classes.

“Starting from May 2, over 230,000 people will receive an Easter Aid, with a total value of 470 million lei,” the prime minister added.

The authorities say that these measures aim to create a safer and friendlier environment for young people who create a family in Moldova.
