Foreign Ministry: No Moldovan citizens among victims in Middle East conflict zones
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova announces that no victims or injured persons have been registered among Moldovan citizens located in states affected by conflicts in the Middle East. The institution states that the Crisis Cell is operating continuously, monitoring security developments in the region, where missile and drone attacks and the closure or restrictions of airspace make the situation extremely volatile.
The Ministry recommends that citizens in the affected states remain in safe locations; avoid non-essential travel; follow the instructions of local authorities; constantly check flight status directly with airlines; stay in contact with diplomatic missions; and obtain information exclusively from official sources.
In Israel, Moldovan citizens are warned to remain in bomb shelters and avoid non-essential travel. The airport is closed, but the land border crossings to Egypt and Jordan are partially functioning. The Embassy is providing consular assistance and updated information.
In Qatar, the situation is more difficult, with the airspace closed, and citizens are advised to remain in safe locations. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova provides consular support to all who request it.
In the United Arab Emirates, the situation remains tense due to missile and drone attacks. The airspace is closed, and the authorities recommend sheltering in place. Public institutions are operating normally. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova has received a significant number of telephone and email requests from Moldovan citizens. All have been provided with consular assistance, updated information, and guidance on transit and departure options. The Embassy maintains constant contact with UAE authorities and with other states’ missions to facilitate possible transit solutions.
The MAE notes that Turkey is a possible transit point.
Republic of Lebanon. According to official statements by the authorities, Israeli airstrikes took place in the context of rocket launches from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel. The strikes targeted several areas in southern Lebanon, as well as areas near the capital, Beirut. The Lebanese authorities convened an emergency meeting and stated that they are closely monitoring the situation. The situation remains tense and can change rapidly. No requests for assistance have been received from citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
The security situation in Iran remains extremely volatile in the context of airstrikes on several military and governmental targets. The Iranian authorities have imposed enhanced security measures, including recommendations to shelter in place and limit movement. Communication restrictions and temporary internet disruptions are possible. The Azerbaijan–Iran land border remains closed to regular passenger traffic. Emergency exits via Azerbaijan are possible only with prior institutional coordination. Citizens of the Republic of Moldova in Iran are urged to avoid inter-provincial travel, to shelter in safe locations, and to avoid proximity to government and military sites. For any potential land evacuation through Azerbaijan, it is necessary to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in advance in order to obtain authorization from the Azerbaijani authorities. Flights in the region are affected, and air evacuations are possible only if approved corridors exist. Following the checks carried out, no victims have been registered among citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
