New criminal case opened against former Moldovan MP

The former MP of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Constantin Tutu, has been in the region on the left bank of the Dniester on the last period. After learning that he was involved in a criminal file on the illegal border crossing, he crossed the border with Ukraine illegally once again, but was detained. The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) today provided details to this effect.

According to the institution, Constantin Tutu would have intention to legalize his stay in Moldova.

“Thus, to mislead the criminal investigation body, Constantin Tutu attempted, through intermediaries, to influence employees of the General Inspectorate of Border Police, in order to be allowed entry from Ukraine to Moldova without impediments,” said the IGP.

The former MP was picked up at the border by investigation officers, later detained and placed in isolation. At the same time, another criminal case was initiated against him for illegal border crossing and influence peddling.

The former PDM lawmaker, Constantin Tutu, was detained by border police officers at the Vulcanesti crossing point on October 2 evening. The ex-deputy was put on an international wanted list on September 24, 2025, after failing to appear in court.

Constantin Tutu was detained in Athens in last July, together with the former PDM leader, Vlad Plahotniuc. He was released by the Greek justice system on September 3, 2025.

The former parliamentarian is being investigated for influence peddling and illicit enrichment. Initially, his cases were brought before the judges in May 2020 and November 2021, later being merged into a single case, which is presently examined at the Chisinau Court.
