The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) today was equipped with six mobile sectors and eight new special vehicles, in order to strengthen its capacity to ensure public order. The project, worth approximately 1.1 million dollars, was financed by the Government of the United States.

The six mobile police sectors will provide officers with the ability to document cases, coordinate interventions and manage situations directly on site. These units allow information to be processed in real time, so that police officers can assist citizens without relying on a fixed office. At the same time, citizens will no longer need to travel to police stations in other localities.

Also today, the IGP vehicle fleet was supplemented with eight pickup-type vehicles meant for rapid response interventions. These will allow police officers to operate in the field in hard-to-reach areas.

“This donation means more than equipment. It means faster response, better mobility, more efficient access in the field and improved working conditions for the police officers who are, day by day, in the service of the people,” said Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

For his part, the IGP head, Viorel Cernauteanu, emphasized that the donation would directly contribute to increasing the capacities of the National Police and aligning it with the highest standards.

“The provision of modern special vehicles allows us to intervene faster and more efficiently, offering increased safety to citizens and better working conditions for police officers,” stated Viorel Cernauteanu.

Special equipment for the individual protection of police employees was also provided: bulletproof vests, anti-stab vests and ballistic helmets. The donation also included equipment for patrolling and monitoring national roads: night vision devices, thermal imaging devices and portable breath alcohol testing devices.

“The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), together with the Government of the United States, is proud to support the National Police in its transformation into a modern law enforcement institution, community-oriented and better equipped to combat crime, which contributes to the safety and security of communities,” UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Daniela Gasparikova noted.

The project will further provide the IGP with another batch of special equipment, including night vision binoculars and TETRA radio stations, worth 240 thousand dollars. This equipment will support frontline police officers in fulfilling their duties safely, identifying crimes and intervening effectively in situations that threaten public order.
