Mechanism for establishing state of emergency to be amended in Moldova according to European model
The fixed term of 60 days for declaring a state of emergency is to be replaced with a flexible period ranging from 30 to 90 days. The government today approved the opinion on the draft law that provides for amending the mechanism for declaring and establishing the duration of the state of emergency, in order to align national legislation with European standards.
The draft aims to amend Article 29 of Law No. 248/2025 on crisis management and was initiated by an MP.
According to the document approved by the government, the exact duration of the state of emergency will be established based on an analysis of risk indicators and depending on the specifics of each situation.
The authorities say that the amendment will allow greater flexibility in crisis management and will ensure that restrictive measures are applied only for as long as necessary to protect citizens and maintain public safety.
At the same time, the initiative is correlated with another legislative proposal, promoted by a group of lawmakers, which provides for strengthening parliamentary control over the crisis management process and adjusting the provisions regarding the state of alert.
The draft law is to be examined by parliament.
