More Moldovans are being investigated for mercenary activities. The suspects are alleged to have enlisted, out of financial interest, in illegal paramilitary formations like “Wagner” or similar groups — both in Ukraine and other countries.
According to the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP), for the promised money, these individuals allegedly participated as combatants in various armed conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.
In this case, law-enforcement authorities today conducted searches at multiple locations in the country. The operation was carried out in cooperation with Ukrainian authorities and the Europol agency.
During the searches, mobile phones, military equipment, illegally held ammunition and other relevant objects for the criminal file were discovered and seized.
The suspects are prosecuted at large and the criminal investigations continue.
