Investments worth at least six billion lei in kindergartens, schools, universities in coming years; Moldovan education minister-designate reforms' speed needs to be accelerated

Unprecedented investments have been made in Moldova's education system in recent years and the new government aims to continue the projects underway and invest at least 6 billion lei in modernizing kindergartens, schools and universities. The designated Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, today made statements to this effect at the parliament meeting, during which the Munteanu government's vote of confidence is being examined.

"In the last four years, 500 million lei has been invested in the infrastructure and equipment of universities of our country. This is the largest investment the government has made in universities in recent decades. Also, in recent years, we have had the best university admissions in the country in the last 8 years, the highest number of young people choosing to stay in Moldova after the 12th grade and study in our country. And this is due to unprecedented investments and general changes happening in the country, as well as a sense of optimism that Moldova is moving in the right direction," said Dan Perciun.

The designated minister said that, in the coming years, 15 student dormitories would be modernized, in order to create better living conditions for young people who choose to study in Moldova.

"The changes that have occurred in higher education must continue; we need to accelerate the speed. We will continue these investments. To achieve our strategic goal, so that in four years' time, seven out of ten lyceum graduates will stay to study in the country. That's what we are working for," concluded Dan Perciun.

Prime Minister-designate Alexandru Munteanu today went to parliament, in order to seek the deputies' vote of confidence, presenting the new government’s activity programme and the governmental team.
