Yellow weather alert for atmospheric instability in Moldova; rain, hail, squalls forecast

The Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority has issued a yellow weather alert for atmospheric instability for the entire territory of Moldova, valid from the afternoon of July 19 until the early hours of July 20. Showers, accompanied by thunderstorms are expected, with heavy downpours, hail and squalls in places.

The warning is valid from July 19, 16:00 to July 20, 02:00.

According to the forecast, short-term showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected over large areas. In isolated places, precipitation amounts will reach 15–35 l/m², and the phenomena will be accompanied by hail and wind intensifications with gusts of up to 15–20 m/s.

In the context, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) rescuers advise citizens to avoid travelling outdoors while dangerous weather phenomena are manifesting and to remain in safe places; not to stop or park cars near trees, billboards or light structures; to close windows and secure objects placed on balconies and terraces; in case of thunderstorms, to avoid touching electrical appliances and to seek shelter inside buildings; not to cross road sections covered with water and to avoid travelling near rivers and water reservoirs.
