VIDEO // Discover Moldova with #MOLDPRES: cultural tourism, art of eggs' decorating in authentic experience at Aievea – handicraft house in Ciniseuti
In a tourism landscape in which more and more travelers seek authentic experiences and genuine connections with local heritage, La Aievea – handicraft house in Ciniseuti, northern Rezina district, offers a model that goes beyond the classic concept of accommodation. Here, tourism becomes a direct encounter with cultural values, with traditions passed down from generation to generation, and with the living identity of the community.
One of the main pillars of this place is the promotion and revitalization of the art of eggs’ decorating – a craft with deep roots in the Romanian and Eastern European space, recognized internationally as an authentic expression of intangible cultural heritage. The technique involves decorating eggs through the successive application of wax and colors, in a meticulous process that requires patience, precision and knowledge of traditional symbolism.
Living heritage transmitted through workshops and educational activities
At La Aievea, the craft is not just displayed as a decorative object; it is experienced and learned. Through creative workshops and educational activities, visitors – whether individual tourists or organized groups – have the opportunity to actively participate in the decorating process. In this way, cultural heritage becomes a practical, interactive and memorable experience.
The workshops facilitate intergenerational connection: local artisans share techniques, symbols and stories, while participants discover the meaning of traditional motifs – from solar and vegetal symbols to representations of fertility and protection. At the same time, the initiative helps open an intercultural dialogue, as foreign tourists have the opportunity to discover the specifics of folk art from Moldova in an authentic setting.
Center dedicated to creativity and cultural tourism
An important step in consolidating this direction was the construction of an egg-decorating center at the guesthouse. The space was created following the GROW Moldova grant programme and is designed as a creative hub dedicated to inspiration, training and the promotion of cultural tourism.
The new center provides suitable conditions for workshops, topic-related exhibitions and demonstration activities, contributing to the diversification of the local tourism offer. At the same time, it strengthens the location’s position as an experiential tourism destination, where tradition is organically integrated into the tourism product.
Institutional support for local tourism development
The GROW Moldova programme was implemented by the National Inbound Tourism Association of Moldova (ANTRIM) and financially supported by the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund. Through this financing mechanism, more local initiatives have received support for the development of infrastructure and innovative tourism products.
In the case of the La Aievea guesthouse, the grant allowed creating a facility that combines cultural heritage with local economic development. The project proves that investments in cultural tourism can generate added value for the community, contribute to the preservation of tradition, and attract a segment of tourists interested in authentic experiences.
Tourism with identity
By integrating the craft into the tourism offer, La Aievea – handicraft house becomes more than a rural guesthouse: it is a meeting space between past and present, between tradition and contemporary creativity. The initiative illustrates the potential of cultural tourism to transform heritage into a living resource, capable of inspiring, educating and creating lasting bonds between people and places.
At a time when authenticity is becoming an essential criterion in choosing destinations, such projects outline a model of sustainable development in which local identity is not only preserved, but also intelligently enhanced.
