Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - The constitution will be amended per stages and with the positive assessment of the European partners, Prime Minister Vlad Filat told journalists today after a government meeting. Filat said that the text of the new constitution will be assessed by the Venice Commission, and a string of laws concerning electoral regulation will be initially assessed by the Council of Europe. All our actions will take place only with the direct support of external partners, Vlad Filat said. At the same time, the prime minister specified that the adoption of a new constitution does not necessarily mean that all the articles from the fundamental law will be changed. Moldova's constitution will include some articles from its present version. The prime minister stressed that the present constitution contains concrete regulations which see the compulsoriness to dissolve the parliament, if the latter fails to elect the president. But if a new constitution appears, new regulations appear, i.e. a new situation. We have a situation when we can avoid the early election, Filat said. At the same time, Vlad Filat specified that the Alliance for European Integration's solution to Moldova's ongoing constitutional crisis is "a compromise." On 9 March, the four leaders of the Alliance for European Integration said that the constitution will be amended via referendum after it is adopted in parliament per stages. The first stage will reside in passing a law due to establish a mechanism for the adoption of a new constitution, which will be afterwards subjected to a referendum.
