National Costume Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Costume Day is marked in Moldova on 30 June. On this occasion, an exhibition titled, Perpetuation of the traditional costume in works by popular craftsmen, was inaugurated at the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum. President Maia Sandu conveyed a message on this occasion, in which she stressed that the national clothes ‘’convey the kindness and wisdom of our ancestors.’’        

„On the last Sunday of June, we celebrate the National Costume Day. These clothes convey the kindness and wisdom of our ancestors and represent one of the principal elements of our national identity. I am happy to see how, in the last years, ever more of us have been wearing with love and promoting with pride this wealth which we inherited,’’ President Maia Sandu said.  

An exhibition titled, Perpetuation of the traditional costume in works by popular craftsmen, was inaugurated at the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum, which comprises pieces from the museum’s heritage.  

„The exhibition is an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the beauty and diversity of the national costume, providing an incursion in the rich universe of the traditional occupations. These costumes have been a source of inspiration for contemporary popular craftsmen. The tradition of manufacturing elements of national costume is reinterpreted in the present works, with the preservation, at the same time, of the authenticity and cultural value,’’ the organizers said.    

On the National Costume Day, the museum informs about a contest for the oldest shirt worn by visitors at the event and the nicest pair clothed in national costume.    

According to the Culture Ministry, the holiday is accompanied by an artistic schedule, with the participation of folk music singers, bands, etc.

At 14:00, visitors are able to admire the national costume’s parade, presented by the Ciocarlia community, managed by Diana Rosca, from the Costesti village, central Ialoveni district, due to be joined by the members of  Șezătoarea Basarabiei (Evening Sitting of Bessarabia).   

All participants wearing national costumes will be urged to follow the route museum – Monument to Stephen the Great.  

The National Costume day is marked on the last day of June. This year, the event is at its ninth issue.
