Moldovan border policemen killed while on duty one year ago commemorated by Border Police employees

Chisinau, 30 June /MOLDPRES/ - A border policemen, Serghei Muntean, who was killed while on duty at the Chisinau International Airport one year ago, today was commemorated by employees of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) General Inspectorate of Border Police (IGPF).      

The IGPF leadership, along with the institution’s staff, paid homage to the departed policeman, Serghei Muntean, one year after the tragic incident held at the Airport. ‘’Serghei Muntean was an example worth being followed, a colleague, a comrade and a man in the true sense of this word, an example, a perfect professional. His memory will always remain alive at the Border Police and not only,’’ the IGPF head, Ruslan Galusca, said.       

The commemoration ceremony was officiated by a priest, who held a requiem in the memory of the departed hero. Subsequently, the border policemen laid flowers at the commemorative stone at the Airport’s Border Police Station. The colleagues visited the grave of the border policemen, Serghei Muntean, from his native village, of Volintiri, Stefan Voda district.   

Border policeman Serghei Muntean and an employee of the Airport’s guard, Igor Ciofu, were shot dead during an incident which occurred at the Chisinau International Airport on 30 June 2024. The officers were killed by bullets of a Tajik citizen, who was denied the entrance to Moldova. Subsequently, the attacker was detained and died on in the hospital in the wake of the wounds got during the detention operation.   

On 18 September 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal file on this case, bringing charges against the former head of the Border Police, Rosian Vasiloi.
