Moldova to mark 35th anniversary of Declaration of Independence with string of events
Moldova will mark the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a string of events, which were included in a decision approved by the government today.
Culture Minister Dan Suruceanu has said that the authorities plan to organize more than twenty cultural, educational, commemorative and festive activities that will take place throughout the entire year.
On August 27, when 35 years since the Declaration of Independence are celebrated, citizens are invited to the official flower-laying ceremony, to a military parade, as well as to a festive concert that will take place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) in the evening.
"We are celebrating the Independence that unites us throughout the whole year. In order to optimize expenses, we propose to remove from the initial programme the organization of a concert dedicated to the Romanian Language Day. On this day, the Education and Research Ministry traditionally organizes the Great National Dictation, a quite nice symbolic event that is already becoming an emblem. Also, as part of the programme dedicated to the Independence of Moldova, in the coming months, the Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival will take place, as well as events dedicated to the Centenary of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre," said Dan Suruceanu.
To coordinate the programme, a working group will be created with the institutions involved.
On August 27, Moldova marks 35 years since the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the parliament on August 27, 1991.
