The Ukrainian Embroidery Shirt Day – Vyshyvanka Festival once again has brought to Chisinau a celebration of cultural identity, ethnic diversity and social cohesion, as part of the 13th edition of the event. The celebration marks 20 years since the establishment of the World Vyshyvanka Day, an initiative launched in the academic environment that has gradually become an international symbol of the traditions, identity and solidarity of the Ukrainian people.

The event brought together representatives of Moldova’s authorities, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, civil society, the Ukrainian community and numerous friends of Ukraine. Artistic bands from Ukraine and Moldova performed for the participants, offering a rich programme of Ukrainian traditions and culture.

In his message, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu underlined that the vyshyvanka is more than just an element of traditional Ukrainian clothing. It represents a symbol of identity, dignity, roots and the courage of the Ukrainian people, and in recent years it has become a symbol of resistance and freedom.

“Today, by wearing the vyshyvanka, we carry with us a part of the history, dignity, and spirit of a people who, even in the most difficult moments, chose to remain free. Through this gesture, we send a simple and sincere message to the Ukrainian people: you are not alone. Moldova stands by you, respects you, supports you and believes in the victory of freedom,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

Ambassador of Ukraine Paun Rohovey emphasized that the Ukrainian people are defending not only the country’s borders, but also the right to remain themselves – to speak their own language, to preserve their culture and to know their history. For this reason, the Ukrainian shirt has become a symbol of resistance, a “spiritual armor,” and a sign of unity for millions of Ukrainians around the world.

“For Ukrainians, the traditional shirt is much more than a clothing item. It is a symbol of our identity, of historical memory, and of spiritual heritage, which not even the Russian aggression can destroy. In each ornament, the experience of generations, love for the native land, the desire for freedom, and faith in the future are encoded,” said Rohovey.

The festival 's schedule included a parade of traditional Ukrainian and Moldovan costumes, creative workshops for children, performances of songs dedicated to both cultures, as well as a symbolic march with the flags of Ukraine and Moldova, held as a sign of unity, peace and solidarity.

The event was organized by the National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova, in partnership with the Culture Ministry, the Interethnic Relations Agency, the Embassy of Ukraine in Moldova, UNICEF and UNHCR Moldova.
