Moldovan government extended by late 2025 obligation of Energocom to centrally purchase energy for consumers
The cabinet approved the necessary amendments during today's meeting to extend the public service obligation of Energocom company, aiming to ensure the security of electricity supply.
Through this decision, the period in which Energocom will centrally purchase electricity to meet the needs of final consumers has been extended until 31 December 2025.
'Thus, the company will continue to purchase the necessary quantities of electricity, ensuring a constant and stable flow of this essential service', the Ministry of Energy says.
Starting 1 January 2025, Energocom will purchase electricity from various sources, through bilateral contracts with suppliers and producers from Romania and Ukraine, as well as from local renewable energy sources or the energy market. It benefits from the necessary capacity and experience to promptly and efficiently manage electricity supply.
'At the same time, by centralizing electricity purchases, Energocom will help avoid constraints related to the use of interconnection capacity and prevent the occurrence of congestion that could negatively influence the final purchase price of electricity', states the source.
The measure will support the stability of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova, ensuring the continuity and accessibility of electricity for all consumers, the Ministry of Energy said.
