Citizens welcome Moldova's connection to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), noting that this step will allow people and companies to benefit from fast, secure and low-cost transfers in euros.
"In the context of the European Union integration, this is a very important moment, because there, the fees are lower, the operations are faster and this is a direct benefit for the citizens of Moldova," said a citizen when asked about fast, secure, and low-cost payments in euros in the SEPA system.
People also say that Moldova's accession to SEPA is a huge opportunity and a significant step towards development. Those who have relatives abroad or children studying in European countries will feel most of the benefits of this action, say the people.
As of October 6, 2025, Moldova has become an operational part of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This allows for euro transfers between payment systems in participating countries under the same conditions of cost, safety and processing time, regardless of borders. SEPA includes all European Union member states, as well as the United Kingdom, countries of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.
Moldova's accession to SEPA brings immediate and tangible benefits to citizens, the Diaspora, companies and the entire economy. According to calculations by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) calculations, while previously an international transfer could cost between 20 and 200 euros, now it will be processed at the same standards and rates as in the European Union, with just a few euros or even free of charge.
BNM calculations show that, through this accession, Moldova will immediately save about 12 million euros annually and in the medium term - up to 20 million euros per year, money that remains in the national economy and supports business development.
