Women of Moldova increasingly present in agriculture, development of local communities

More and more women of Moldova are becoming leaders in agriculture, managing farms, planning investments and overseeing complex projects that contribute to the development of the rural economy. According to the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA), in the last year alone, 746 women entrepreneurs benefited from financing through the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Environment Development, totaling over 185 million lei.

Most investments were made in complementary measures – 631 women utilized over 107 million lei, followed by the post-investment format, with 85 beneficiaries and about 46 million lei, and advance payments, where 30 women attracted around 31 million lei.

“Women stand out through choices aimed at efficiency and sustainability. The investments made by women farmers are focused in areas that define modern agriculture – purchasing high-performance agricultural equipment, developing livestock farms, creating processing and storage infrastructures, as well as modernizing vineyards with export potential,” according to AIPA data.

The tendency women’s active involvement in agriculture continues into 2025. Ninety six women accessed over 40.8 million lei through direct payments in the livestock sector, contributing to the consolidation of a competitive field with increasingly higher quality standards.

Experts say that the involvement of women brings stability, innovation and vision to the rural environment. They build teams, strengthen communities and set an example of responsible leadership in areas traditionally dominated by men.

On the International Day of Rural Women, authorities express gratitude to the women who, through work and dedication, contribute to the development of rural communities.

“We wish them energy, inspiration, and vision to continue developing prosperous communities and sustainable businesses,” writes the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The International Day of Rural Women is annually marked on October 15, established by the United Nations, in order to recognize the essential role of women in food security, poverty reduction and the sustainable development of the rural environment.
