The Moldova-European Union Summit today opened in Chisinau. Attending the event are President Maia Sandu and senior European officials, including President of the European Council António Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The event marks a new stage in Moldova's European way, providing a strengthened dialogue platform with the European Union.
In her opening speech, President Maia Sandu said that the accession to the European Union was, above all, "the chance to live well here at home, in peace, with opportunities for all." She emphasized that "peace is the foundation of this European path" and reiterated that the European ideal was built day by day, including through this new summit format, which might become one of the most effective cooperation mechanisms.
"The future of Moldova is in the European Union. This future is no longer a distant dream—we are building it together, step by step, through reforms, collaboration, and mutual support," the head of state pointed out.
President of the European Council António Costa appreciated Moldova's progress in the integration process, noting that "the European journey delivers real results for citizens—modernized infrastructure, jobs, economic opportunities, a better standard of living and a more competitive economy."
"The European integration is essential not only for the security and prosperity of Moldova, but also for the stability of the entire region," Costa also said.
At the same time, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the Moldovan people on their courage and determination showed in recent years. She emphasized that Moldova had a historic opportunity to advance in the accession process:
