Chisinau today was host of the first Moldova-European Union Summit, a landmark event marking the strengthening of the relationship between Chisinau and Brussels.

President Maia Sandu welcomed European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Chisinau. The event was also attended by the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

During the summit, Ursula von der Leyen announced the disbursement of the first installment of 270 million euros from the Growth Plan for Moldova, as part of a total financial package worth 1.9 billion euros, aimed at modernizing infrastructure, supporting the business environment and strengthening the Moldovan economy.

At the same time, the European officials confirmed that Moldova was ready to join the Roam like at Home programme. Thus, starting from January 1, 2026, Moldovan citizens will be able to use mobile telephony and the internet in the European Union without additional roaming charges, just like citizens of member states.

The summit and the visit of the high-ranking European dignitaries to Chisinau were photographically documented by Mihai Vengher and Andrei Mardari, photojournalists of the State Information Agency MOLDPRES.
