Moldovan PM says Moldova at home in Europe, first EU summit confirms country's irreversible direction

“Moldova is at home in Europe” – is the firm message conveyed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean following the first Moldova – European Union Summit, which took place in Chisinau today. The event brought together leaders of European institutions and Moldovan authorities, in order to reconfirm the country's European trajectory.

According to the PM, the massive support provided by the European Union proves real solidarity and the joint commitment to transform Moldova into a prosperous and secure state:

“We feel this through all the financial support we receive to transform Moldova. We know this because we are Europeans in values and we do our part to maintain peace and stability in the region,” Recean said.

Prime Minister Recean noted that, along with President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, he had welcomed in Chisinau President of the European Council Antonio Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Together, they discussed the next steps in Moldova’s European path.

European investments for Moldova's development

Dorin Recean welcomed the announcement made by Ursula von der Leyen regarding the unlocking of the first installment of 270 million euros from the Growth Plan for Moldova – an initiative worth a total of 1.9 billion euros, which is  to be invested over the next three years across the country:

“From north to south, in cities and villages, we will invest in better roads, schools, more accessible services, support for young people and entrepreneurs and our energy independence.”

The prime minister specified that ongoing projects can be transparently followed by citizens on the platform www.moldovaeuropeana.md.

“Prosperity does not come as a gift, it is built”

In his message, Recean emphasized that the country's success depends on the unity and determination of its citizens:

“Moldova chooses peace, prosperity and a European future. I am sure that Moldova has everything it needs to succeed. Prosperity and peace do not come as a gift, they are built. Through work. Through collective effort. Through unity.”

The Declaration of the Chișinău Summit reconfirmed that Moldova's future is in the European Union, and the progress made in the reform process is recognized and encouraged by European partners. The summit took place in the context of the security challenges generated by the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and at an essential moment for Moldova's European journey.
